WHAT IS OPEN MAT?
Open Mat at Resilient Jiu Jitsu is a dedicated training time focused on sparring and specific drills. Our Open Mat events are open to youth and adult students, generally ages 8 and up. Visitors are welcome and often join us for our Open Mat events.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Open Mat at Resilient Jiu Jitsu is typically a 90-minute training session. We will warm up as a group and then begin specific drills and/or sparring. While this training session is often considered less formal than a traditional class, we do encourage all participants to train for the entire session, or remain in the academy to watch and support our training partners.
Open Mats are always supervised by an experienced instructor, such as our head coach Gabriel Montuani or a visiting black belt.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
TRAINING ATTIRE: If you are visiting Resilient Jiu Jitsu, please plan to bring or rent a white gi. For no gi training, please train in a rash guard and shorts or spats with no pockets. You may bring a towel and change of clothes if you desire.
WATER AND/OR SNACKS: You are encouraged to bring a water bottle. We have cold water on tap in the academy for refills. FitAID Sports Recovery drinks, Prestige Labs Preworkout and Recovery, and other sports performance supplements and snacks are available to help support your healthiest training journey.
GREAT ATTITUDE: Open Mat at Resilient Jiu Jitsu is a wonderful opportunity to test your skills and challenge yourself. Our academy culture is focused on technique, safety, comradery, and humility. We train hard, but we take care of each other.
