Resilient Jiu Jitsu - 12-Week Self Defense Series

This week we are launching our focus on self defense at Resilient Jiu Jitsu. Over the next 12 weeks, we will develop technique and confidence to build self defense skills from specific positions that will be effective in both sport and real-world environments:

  • Resilient Pee Wees (Ages 3-5) — Self Defense from Mount

    • For this age group, having other child sit on their belly can be a very sensitive and scary experience. We will work on building comfort when in the mount position so that this age group can begin to develop the confidence needed to work on self defense from the ground, including getting to the mount and side control positions, and mount escapes.

  • Resilient Juniors (Ages 5-8) — Guard Retention and Disciplined Training Mindset

    • We will focus on two situations for guard retention: self defense against a bully who does not know jiu jitsu technique, and guard retention during a jiu jitsu match. For this age group, we begin to develop a mindset for training with discipline, including developing self control and ability to listen to instructions under a healthy amount of stress.

  • Resilient Kids (Ages 8-12) — Anti-Bullying and Self Defense

    • In this age group, kids begin to have the power and strength to significantly harm one another in a bullying environment. We will develop confidence and comfort when in an aggressive interaction, in order to have self control and learn to manage a self defense scenario calmly and safely. This directly translates to building the skill of keeping calm during a jiu jitsu match, and the ability to learn what is discomfort versus a situation or position that is threatening. We will practice these skills from a variety of positions, and will also learn punch, kick, and clinch defenses.

  • Resilient Black (Co-ed Teens and Adults) — Self Defense and Escapes

    • Fundamentals — We will develop confidence and sensitivity to a variety of positions to understand the difference between discomfort and danger. We will learn what makes jiu jitsu positions effective for control, and how to escape them.

    • Advanced — We will focus on the same concepts as fundamentals, but in a live training environment and with more advanced positions and escapes.

  • Resilient Women — Self Defense Series Review

    • We will continue our rotating self defense curriculum and practice self defense and escapes from all positions, as well as develop the skill to create safety in any environment.
