Free Women’s Self Defense Seminar at Marianna City Farmer’s Market Opening Day
Resilient Jiu Jitsu is partnering with Main Street Marianna and the Marianna Police Department to offer a free Women’s Self Defense seminar at Opening Day of the Marianna City Farmer’s Market on Saturday, April 1.
“I’m looking forward to sharing this self defense seminar with the Marianna community,” said Gabriel Montuani, founder of Resilient Jiu Jitsu, which is opening in historic downtown Marianna in April. “I will show simple and efficient techniques for self defense situations, and we will talk about the concept of self defense and when to use it,”
During the free seminar, participants will learn practical self defense techniques and concepts. The training is fun, approachable, beginner-friendly, and appropriate for preteens, teenagers and adults. Modifications can be made for participants with mobility restrictions.
“Women have unique considerations in how we approach the world, and I believe that learning self defense can and should be positive, empowering, and welcoming for everyone, regardless of fitness or experience level,” said Carly Barnes Montuani, co-founder of Resilient Jiu Jitsu.
Instructors for the seminar are São Paulo native Gabriel Montuani, who is a first degree black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu with more than a decade of professional jiu jitsu coaching experience, and his wife Carly Barnes Montuani, who is a brown belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu.
“We believe that Marianna is a wonderful community and we are happy to be out at the Marianna City Farmer’s Market to empower our local women and girls,” said Carly Montuani. “We are grateful to the Marianna Police Department, Main Street Marianna, and the Market for partnering with us on this event.”
Women interested in participating in the seminar are encouraged to reserve their spot in advance, as the event has a cap for attendance. Participants should wear comfortable clothing appropriate for exercise. The seminar will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. The Marianna City Farmer’s Market is hosted at Madison Street Park, located at 2881 Madison Street in Marianna.
